 Oceans Fare (dj wedding reception)
« Thread Started on Feb 4, 2008, 5:18pm »

The wedding reception was to be held Dante's dining room. All the normal furniture had been removed and replaced with smaller tables covered in white linen clothes and matching covered chairs with pale blue sashes around them. The centrepieces were blue candles surrounded with flora to match the bridal bouquet. Dante led his new bride into the room, his head held high. He looked as if he was ready to take on storms and survive them. Tempests would cower now he had his Juliet by his side. He gently sat her down at the head table before seating himself beside her and kissing her cheek.

The room looked like a dream, as Juliet entered with the most amazing smile on her face and a look of pride in her eyes that would make most look again at her. The tables were also decorated with blown glass ship votive holders, tying in the one constant in the newlyweds' life: the sea.
Her hand tucked warmly in her husband's arm, she floated like in a dream to the front table. "Oh look!" she cried as she saw the centerpiece of a glass lotus flower holding a powder blue candle on royal blue silk. "Dante, I had no idea you would be so lavish... you really did not need to be..."

Dante kissed each one of her finger tips,
"You were worth every penny and so much more."
He was glad of the general hubbub around them so their tender sentiments would not be interrupted. He saw Drake forcing himself to be cheerful. In truth, the man was hurt by his wife's actions during the ceremony. She didn't understand. It wasn't him in the wrong. And by the way that Annalisse's older sister and that scarred fiend were looking at each other secretly across the table, it seemed as though they would be forced to breathe the same air for much longer than he had anticipated. His smile was fixed sunshine, his eyes were boiling thunder.
Dante, however, was oblivious to the tensions in the family as he fed his wife a cucumber and smoked salmon sandwich from the platter in front of them as a maid poured them some cloudy lemonade.
"It is a shame we cannot have a proper honeymoon my love," he said.

Juliet blushed and leaned forward to kiss his chin in thanks. At his regret, she moved closer to him so only he could hear, feigning feeding him as the only reason. "Any moment spent in your company will be the honeymoon of my dreams..... husband." Her eyes twinkled like bits of starlight trapped.

Annalisse was chatting with her elder sister and her brother as they began to eat the light meal. She had not noticed Drake's mood, nor would she have cared - she was one to forgive and forget. And today was to be a happy one - for despite Juliet's and her differences through the years, she still admired her sister the heart of gold she had.

Dante moved close to kiss her until Mr Boscastle coughed awkwardly and asked if he wanted some pork pie. He turned and politely thanked him, smothering a laugh and sliced it in half, feeding part to his bride munching on the other half. He frowned when he saw Drake stand up suddenly, muttering that he needed some fresh air and left the room.

Araminta rose from her seat and went to 'look' for her handkerchief, she dropped it by Tiernan's table and knelt to pick it up. She smiled up at him, her back turned to her father and squeezed his knee lovingly. Her eyes told him how brave she thought him, how proud she was of his controlled temper and how glad she was not in her sisters' shoes- either of them. Their love seemed pretty ordinary compared to their dark tale.

Annalisse glanced over at Drake for a moment, then returned to her conversation with a fellow socialite wife a few years her senior and in looks. She was discussing the latest fashion for pelisse mantles of the finest fur. Juliet giggled and flushed at her father's censorship and winked at him over her husband's shoulder. He would ever be teasing her, and she was glad for it. Though his debts had nearly lead to their mutual unhappiness, the Leightons would always be there for her family.

Tiernan's eyes shone just for her, though he made no indication of their closeness. He had struggled not to attack Drake - and even now longed to "join him" on the terrace. But he could not - for his canary wished it not so. And he would do anything for her.

As Dante was helping his wife and himself to a plate of scotch eggs, Reina came up to them, her smile was a little strained as she kissed her brother's cheek and congratulated him. Then her neck turned stiffly to his new wife, she brushed her lips briefly against Juliet's cheek and murmured,
"Welcome to the family, sister."
Before she returned to her seat beside Julian and said to him in a light hearted voice,
"I wish I had a dozen engaged siblings, for the food they always put on at weddings is excellent!"
Dante blew a sigh of relief and grinned at his wife.
"Welcome to the family indeed!"

Araminta reluctantly rose and gave Tiernan a meaningful look before slipping out into the corridor. She wanted him to follow. Thankfully, Drake was outside, puffing on a cigar.

Juliet had stiffened when her sister-in-law approached - the last time they had really spoken she had been hateful of Juliet's presence. But the olive branch was out and she managed to whisper a heartfelt "Thank you..." to Reina before she disappeared. "I think with time we can become friends again - I just need to gain her trust again..."

Julian was in engaged in a major conversation with a fellow navy officer when Reina returned. He immediately ignored the man and turned to her, chuckling at her tease. "Well, that was very gallant. Is everything alright, Miss Leighton?" he asked, concerned that she might be hiding her hurt beneath the laughter.

Tiernan waited but two minutes before slipping into the hallway. He navigated the darkness quite well, finding her and taking her hand. In moments, he was dashing off with her in tow to find a private place to talk.

Annalisse felt like something was missing and moved to place a roaming hand on her husband's thigh - instead coming up with just a wooden chair seat. She looked about, forgetting where he was until she saw the smoke drifting past the window. She excused herself and wandered outside. "Too hot?" she asked, placing her arms about her as she was nearly bare in the cold day.

Dante bit back the words that acceptance was not friendship when it came to Reina, but did not wish to dampen his bride's day. He vowed he would speak to his sister later on. Then, as a plate of small summer fruit tarts came around, Mr Boscastle stood, wiping his mouth nervously.

Reina, who could be very frank when asking others about their feelings (and usually correct when guessing their cause), could be a little coy some times when asked about her own when they were too close to the surface.
"I am fine thank you," she replied, the defiant tilt of her head and the straining neck muscles told him not to pursue the matter, before she lightly deflected his question by adding,
"Though soon I will be so well fed that you will need extra strong horses for the carriage!"
She laughed and then fell silent as the father of the bride rose.

Drake turned and saw his wife shivering, hastily he removed his coat and placed it around her shoulders, before stamping on his cigar end.
"Come on," he said gruffly, "we'll miss the speeches."
And he headed back inside.

Araminta giggled at her love's spontaneity and squeezed his fingers. Knowing the place better than he did, she led him into the study and drew him into her arms and a passionate kiss.

"This is the first speech I have had to make, and Juliet is the second of my children to be married," began Mr Boscastle awkwardly,
"I am a business man, not a politician, and therefore not good at making speeches- or pretending to know what I am talking about *laughter*. Today I believe I made a very noble sacrifice, I gave another of my pearls to the swine I call suitors. *laughter* But, this suitor is no swine. He is a man amongst men. And I know I could not have asked for better for my daughter if he were a king. And why is that? Because he has loved her through heart break and without hope. He has proved his worth. And proved that my daughter is priceless. Ladies and Gentlemen; I give you the pearl and the pig!"

Julian watched her, confused as to her workings. But then, the supposed Eros of Bath did not truly understand a woman's mind. He knew how to please and lavish on them of course, to charm them, but not the inner workings. He had never bothered, save for with one. But now Reina made him want to understand. He focused on the speech, relieved he did not have to make one.

Annalisse pulled his coat about her, his warmth still in it making her chills cease. Plus the scent of him she so loved lingered about him. Still, something was wrong - had he been approached by the viscount? Where they to duel at dawn? She shivered, for another reason, as her mind went whirling off in a pleathera of romance novel plotlines, even as he lead her inside.

Tiernan soaked up the kiss she offered, pulling her down onto a settee and onto his lap. He tangled his hands into her hair, loosing the pins and flowers, bringing them into a cage of brilliant red bliss.

The crowd laughed and then applauded for the bride and groom. Juliet found her husband's hand under the table and squeezed it, tracing his ring on his finger. She mouthed her thanks to her father and rose to kiss his cheek before rejoining her Dante.

Dante grinned and chuckled, nodding his thanks to his new father-in-law, the speech had really touched him though as there had been moments during the ceremony when Dante had thought his new wife's father would seriously object to their marriage! He rose to make his own speech, looking down only at Juliet as he said it. His eyes conveyed everything to her that his words could not.
"I would like to thank you all for coming, for your support and kindness upon such short notice. But when you have waited a lifetime to find your lifetime, you want to get on with your lifetime. My life without Juliet would be like being stuck on dry land for the rest of my life. *laughter from naval friends* The sea represents everything I love about my new bride. Deep, mysterious, strong, peerless, breath taking, when I am with her, everything else seems dull. She is incomparable, like riding the surf of a storm, yet knowing you will be safe in the outcome. I have spent a lifetime with the sea because I had nothing to replace it. Now I have, to my wife- my own ocean!"
He raised his glass and drank deeply before catching her lips in a kiss.

Araminta slowly pulled back from the kiss to remove his mask even as he undid her hair. She watched him staring at it with fascination and blushed. She had always been sensitive about her bright colour. Carrot top was what she had been called when growing up by siblings jealous of the affection she got from both parents and the insults had left their scars. She now kissed his, to cover up her embarrassment.

Juliet's deep brown eyes misted over at his words, cryptic as they sometimes were. She understood him perfectly. At the end of it, she was in his arms before he could put down the glass, taking it from him as they kissed, then drinking deeply in a silent toast to him.

The cake was brought out, a light blue marizipan confection decorated with sea shells and topped with a gold and crystal replica of Dante's ship. Juliet beamed at him, as she had arranged the ship's inclusion in the design...

Beast let her remove it, no longer even flinching when the warmth of the room hit his sensitive scar. Her kisses were welcome, and he said into a kiss to her neck, "I hope our children have your hair..."

Dante was delighted with the cake, but after that kiss, he was impatient to get away, the room suddenly very full and there was only one other person whom he wanted to share it with. Still, mastering his patience, he stepped forwards, hand in hand with his new bride and took up the knife. Placing her hands over it and then covering them with his own, he gently pushed down and carved out the first piece.

Araminta flinched at his words and she frowned,
"Why would you wish this hair colour on them? It is too garish and they will be laughed at."
She blushed as a hundred memories came back and looked down, fiddling awkwardly with one of his coat buttons.

Juliet snuggled back into his chest as he guided her in the cutting of the cake. It was becoming too much for her - all this pagentry - and she could feel the minutes she was loosing with him with each click of the clock. She fed him a small bite of the cake, her eyes indicating her need for being alone with him.

Luckily for her, her mother was now in complete hysterics - the wedding of two daughters so quickly to two rather wealthy and affluent men too much for her. She burst out in noisy tears, drawing all the attention of the party.

Tiernan stopped his kisses and pulled back, cupping her face in his large hands. He forced her to look at him, though it pained him to do so. "Because it is unique - and it is you. I have always loved this colour - Araminta, there is no reason to be ashamed. And this - coming from your Beast!" he cracked a joke for truly the first time and half-grinned.

In that moment, with everyone diverted, Dante took his wife's hand and slipped out of the room, throwing a cloak over her shoulders and one over his, he headed outside and down the steps to where there was a carriage, which he had ordered for them.
"I thought we could spend our wedding night on board the ship, we shall have it to ourselves, what do you say my love? I sent your maid over there already with your night attire, some clothes for tomorrow and some supplies."
He winked down at her, kissing her passionately before helping her into the carriage and leaping in afterwards. Soon they were heading away from the hubbub of their families and friends. Towards the sea and freedom.

Araminta could not stop a tear falling down her cheek,
"That is the most beautiful thing you have ever said to me...save when you told me of your love and proposed...we must tell papa as soon as possible! I can't bear putting off the inevitable any longer and I want to begin my life again with you."
