Seeing you in a new light (emily)
« Thread Started on Jul 1, 2008, 5:07pm »

Since coming to stay with his cousin, Edward had found a peace that he had never felt before, he had sent the letter to his clerk and told him he would be taking a few days away from work, and seeing as he had only ever had Christmas Eve, day and Easter Sunday off before, they were shocked that he should be taking such a random holiday.
He had slept deeply for the first time in years and Emily had made sure he was eating properly. And now he was waiting for her so they could play a game of chess. She had been taking a nap after a late night party the night before and he was growing impatient, so he made his way upstairs...

Luxury was this. Despite recent changes to her behaviour and routine, Emily refused to not enjoy her bath. She relaxed back into the scented waters, floating rose petals lacing the surface. The hot water relaxed her body, letting her finally find peace from the worries that she would never be good enough. She must have fallen asleep, for she had dismissed her maid as per usual. And she didn't hear the footsteps as she shifted her leg, knee glistening out of the water's surface.

As per usual, Edward knocked on a door but didn't wait for permission to enter, he just went straight in, the social customs of the day didn't seem to apply to him. But in that moment he knew why. His so called little cousin was a woman! There she was, bathing completely naked in a tub, the water falling slowly like oil over her breasts and legs. He swallowed hard and blinked rapidly before his face caught fire with the flames of embarrassment and he hastily muttered his apologies and stumbled out of the room, closing the door behind him and running downstairs, tripping over the last step and went flying through an open window into a patch of stinging nettles.

She only noticed his presence when he mumbled something and tripped out of the room. She had grabbed a towel and pulled it into the bath, covering her breasts. And then Emily heard the crash of him out of the window and she called for her maid. She was out of the bath in second, nearly slipping on the wood floor, and wrapping herself in a robe and slippers. Her hair, still piled on her head, had damp ringlets at the base. Only worried about Edward, she rushed down the stairs and to the window, holding her robe closed at the time. "Cousin, are you alright? Should I call for the doctor?"

There was a muffled groan and then a
"Are you decent? I'm not coming out of here until you are, I don't care how much this hurts."
In truth, Edward was more in a state of shock than pain. He had seen his cousin naked and for the first time he realised that not only was she beautiful but that he also found her attractive. The nude paintings he'd seen of women before hand were simply works of art to be admired, not attracted to and the real thing was well...alarmingly arousing. But he was in too much pain to even think about getting an erection at the moment.

Only at his question did she look down at how she was dressed. A blush flushed her skin a brilliant pink from her face to her toes. She called for some servants to help her cousin from the bush, before running off upstairs, a little more out of breath than she would be normally. She dressed with care, letting the staff take care of her cousin, as just seeing him at tea would keep her a lovely shade of rose blush all evening and into the morning.

Thankfully his clothing had protected him from the worst stings, though there were loads over his neck and hands and Edward winced as he was led back into the parlour and sat down, the cook scolding him as if he were a little boy once more and rubbing salves made from bay leaves into his skin.

She came down an hour later, wearing a green gown the colour of the grasses around her home. Emily brought with her a small herbal bag, in which she had some balm she had mixed herself that worked better on stings than anything else. She knew a lot about them, seeing as she had 4 brothers who loved to pull pranks on each other. Bringing him a cup of tea as he liked it, and some prawn and cucumber treats, she blushed brightly as she entered and asked if he still wanted to play chess.

When Emily entered the room, Edward blushed fiercely and looked down. Inside his guts were writhing in turmoil, what should he say? Should he apologize again? Surely that would only embarrass them both further? But when she mentioned chess, he looked up at her gave a fat sigh of relief- perhaps a little too loud and nodded. Then the shade of her gown made him chuckle,
"You look like a leprechaun!"

That served to make her giggle, no matter how insulting. She placed the goodies down and placed her hands on her hips. "Is that any way to talk to a lady? Much less your own relations, Mr. Barlow?" She tsked at him, before giggling again that he was hopeless, and moved to the chess board. She took her time setting up the pieces, feeling that as time passed she would lose her embarrassment - but she was not too lucky.

Edward chuckled and shrugged,
"You'd be more insulted if I flattered you- and besides I know as much about women's fashion as you do about my secret passion for Greek Pottery."
His lips twitched and he winced at the effect it had on the stings on his neck.

Her eyes flitted up at the mention, and she caught the wince. "You too?" she said, completely serious. When she was finished with the setup, she came back to his side. "I have a better salve than the one Cook uses, should you want to ease them a bit. It brings down the inflamation and cools the sting," Emily offered, opening her bag and taking out a salve as green as her gown.

He shook his head and chuckled,
"No I don't really, although I do enjoy studying pictures of ancient greek pottery, I do not have any as, you have probably guessed, I am very clumsy."
He gave her a rueful half smile and then raised a comical eyebrow at the paste.
"Aha! So the leprechaun has magic powers eh?" he grinned.

"Yes, and she'll curse you too if you don't stop picking on her..." Emily countered. She made him sit back on the coach and knelt to the side of him, gently dapping on the salve over the wounds. When she couldn't reach, she shuffled her legs so she was strattling his leg, not realizing what she was doing. Emily focused on a particularly stubborn wound and her tiny pink tongue was out during her concentration.

Edward stiffened when she straddled his leg and gently pushed her off,
"Will you desist madam!" he snapped and muttered, flushing heavily, "I think I can take over for now, thank you now please go and sit back down i-in a more appropriate position!"
He had felt a slight twitch in his groin and took his shame out on her.

Emily's embarrassment was acute, but she became indignant at his scolding. She corrected her skirt, wiping her fingers on the fine material as she had no more plans on ever wearing the garment again since she had been so mocked. Her eyes grew wet but she wouldn't cry. "Forgive me for caring for you! I am not one of your clerks to be screamed at, Mr. Barlow! I have feelings like any other human being - save perhaps for your cold person!" And she flew from the room, knocking the chess board over.

Edward flushed darker and once again he began to panic when he saw her eyes growing wet, but she saved him the matter of awkwardly trying to comfort her by fleeing from the room. He stared down at the scattered chess pieces, frowning hard.
Then he picked up the white queen and crushed it harshly into the palm of his hand. He swore but not from the pain of the chess piece...
