 Fractured Fairytales [Lou and Patience]
« Thread Started on Jul 12, 2008, 2:58am »

You will adore it my Dear, I assure you! Caroline's words rang clearly above the din as Lou Beckett forsoke all attempts at making a lady-like entrance, and shouldered her way through the sea of bodies milling about the foyer, There is simply nothing like Bath, my darling Louisa, it is so refreshing, I do think, to mingle with new society, and new ideas - better than the stuffy old country.

Caroline, her sister-in-law, had managed to seemingly float into the openings in the crowd, and while they had been tightly arm in arm as they strode through the door, Lou's grip on her sister's arm was slipping to a mere clasping of lace-gloved fingers. A young woman with a tear-stained face tore through the crowd and nearly bumped into her, forcing Lou to release her grasp on her sister's hand and gather the hem of her new gown, a deep aubergine with a low bodice embellished with aquamarine, violet, and smoke-grey glass beads, as the girl flew down the steps and into the street.

Lou looked back on the ocean of faces, not one could she recognize, and a half-hearted urge to follow fluttered a little, and then sunk back into the recesses of her being.

A tiny smirk pulled at the corners of her small, well-formed mouth, excitement flashing across her features as she maneuvered -- with somewhat more tact, and a deal more elegance -- up to the staircase, and into the upper-rooms, where she was certain she would find her sister-in-law, Caroline.

"I cannot see her," she muttered to herself as she strode inside, anxiety chirping in her mind like a tiny bird. Who could she talk to without being introduced? all the lessons of ettiquette and propriety her mother had drilled into her seemed to have escaped from her mind.

To be safe, she stationed herself against a wall by the entrance to the Upper-Rooms, and was determined to speak to no one until Caroline rescued her, not a single, solitary soul, with no exceptions, minus of course, another woman speaking to her, stumbling upon her brother Andrew, or the master of ceremonies, who she was sure, knew exactly where every person was, and who was suitable company.
