Returning (Faine) « Thread Started on Jan 21, 2008, 7:38pm »
Having just returned from a fashionably long two month honeymoon, Vauxhall was already bored with his wife and was looking forward to getting up to his old tricks. Yet, he was still determined that his wife should never want for anything, and so as soon as they had unpacked, he led her down to the front parlour, his hands over her eyes and then only removed them when she was standing in the middle of the room. There was a jewelry box containing purple jewelry and even some tulip shaped ones which were her favourite flowers and colour. There were also some fine day dresses and evening gowns.

As Faine and her husband came home after their honeymoon, she was glad to say that she was glad to be within her new home, well, techinally she was happy to be with her husband as he made her felt her want for nothing. She had never been more happy. When they reached their home, she had felt some relief fill her. But after they had unpacked, she was surprised when Vauxhall covered her eyes, leading her to the front parlour, along the way she had been wondering what surprises he had in store for her. Then when he removed his hands to reveal his gifts for her,she gasped and said, looking at the jewelry and the lovely dresses."Oh,this jewelry, these dresses--oh,they are just too beautiful!"Faine was in awe--she could not find words to describe at that moment.

Vauxhall grinned lazily and kissed her neck, "I am glad you like these gifts, I hope they shall keep you amused when I am working at trying to become even richer, so that I can spoil you even more-" He was interrupted by the butler who said that Lord Danton was here to see him as well as his banker. The marquis instructed that the banker be shown into his study and offered some light refreshment and that his old school friend was to come in immediately.

As her husband kissed her neck, she grinned lovingly,to hear that he was to spoil her more and more was making her very happy, she smiled and glanced up at her husband, she was almost about to kiss him on the cheek and then lovingly upon the lips but the butler came in and annouced that his banker and Lord Danton was here as well--how perfect! Ruining a kiss for her to give to her husband--but oh,well. She was actually glad to have guests in their home--especially being gone for two months on a nice honeymoon, she would add within her mind. She couldn't help though at glance at the gifts still, she found a few dresses she liked very, very much.

Phoebus entered and grinned at his best friend, shaking him by the hand and turning to Faine, he kissed her fingers, slightly staggered by her beauty as she looked different from the first time they had met, she had grown in grace and confidence. She had a more polished air and now looked as if she could be the wife of a marquis. "How was the honeymoon sir?" he asked Valerian. "Tediously long!" Laughed Vauxhall jokingly, yet Phoebus, and only someone like Phoebus who had known him so long could see that he wasn't completely joking beneath. "Still, Brighton was more lively than ever and everyone adored Lady Vauxhall, she was the toast of the town." "A man would have to be blind not to notice the beauty and charms of the marchioness," replied Phoebus smoothly, inclining his head in a bow towards Faine.

As Phoebus entered the room,Faine straightened up as if to look very elegant, something that she had developed over the two month honeymoon as they were around elgance almost all the time.Faine curtised slightly to Phoebus right as he kissed her fingers,a gentleman he was. Faine looked at her husband as he spoke about their honeymoon, although she did not feel it was long at all--since Brighton was a lovely place for her to be and to her being adored,well--she wasn't quite used to it,but it was a nice feeling. As Phoebus complimented how a man would be blind as to not see her beauty, she smiled slightly and bowed her head to him as if her nod were her way of saying,'You are too kind, sir.'

Vauxhall brought out his pocket watch and bowed to his wife and friend, begging them to excuse him for a moment whilst he spoke to his banker. "It is about setting up an allowance for my wife." he said to Phoebus with a knowing look. Phoebus smiled ruefully, "My wife always exceeds hers!" Valerian nodded uncomfortably, for it was a well known fact that Phoebus' wife was the vilest woman on earth who plagued her husband's heart out. As soon as they were alone, Phoebus walked over to the window and stared out across the busy street, "I am glad to hear that your honeymoon went well, my lady. Do you mind if I ask you something personal? Are you happy in your marriage?"

Faine had sat down in a chair nearby and straightened her dress skirt as she sat down and looked to Phoebus as he asked her about a personal question. It was highly odd of him to ask of her but she nodded and then she heard the question most wives get--if she was happy in her marriage. She could not believe that such a question could be asked, but it was questionable as her mother sold her to be a bride. But she replied,"Of course I am happy in my marriage,Lord Danton. How could I not be? Granted,I did not have much time to get to know my husband before we married--but I am happy--why do you ask? If you don't mind me asking---" Faine was wondering herself why he was asking her something so personal to her.

Phoebus heard the happy innocence in her voice and winced inwardly- a soul ripened to be crushed. He coughed awkwardly and straightened his cravat, beginning to pace nervously. "Madam, I believe there are some things that you should know about your husband, though I am loathed to tell them. But the marquis is at heart a cold man, made his own money. He bought you to enjoy your innocence, but he will tire of you and seek to indulge in his former ways...if you understand my meaning. Vauxhall is not meant for marriage."

Hearing this news almost broke Faine's heart--and just when she was starting to like her husband, she was told of this! Faine shook her head and said,"I don't believe you--you really think my husband will tire of me?"Faine's eyes were filling with tears."I simply can't believe this--I won't. How do I know this is true? My husband doesn't seem like the type of man to do this--he wishes to make sure I am cared for!"Faine then got up and said to Phoebus,"I don't believe you,my husband did not buy me for my innocence--granted,my mother had something to do with it--but surely that is the only reason--"The tears in Faine's eyes could show that she did not want to believe the news she had been told. Not now--Faine shivered as she sat down, almost fainting into a seat, clutching her stomach--she didn't want to believe so badly.

It wrenched Phoebus' heart to see his best friend's little innocent so tormented and so sat down next to her and gave her his handkerchief. "I regret to say marm that I know more about your husband than you do, I have known him since his school days and he is always more at home and natural with me and fellow friends than he ever is with his women. He will flatter them and seduce him, but very rarely will they ever see the true side of him. Your novelty was your innocence, but now you are his wife in every sense, he will soon tire of you. I feel it is my duty to warn you, my lady, so you can best prepare for the inevitable."

Faine sighed and looked to Phoebus, she took his hankerchief and dabbed the tears from her eyes, she nodded to him and said,"I thank you for warning me,sir Phoebus. But if my husband tires of me--what could I do?"Faine covered her face and sighed, she had to be calm. She couldn't go into a whim of anger. Why had her husband not told her he would do this?! Faine then replied to Phoebus and asked him,"If you say you know my husband like you say you do--how do you think he would react if he said if I was with child?"What Faine was asking was not a lie--she felt not too well lately. Her breasts had been aching so much--and Faine knew the symptoms of a pregancy--her mother did after all have a child after her.

Phoebus was filled with pity at what she said and sighed unhappily, "He would be proud of having such a fertile wife, but it would make him stray even faster even as you grew bigger....you need to make yourself invaluable to him, so he cannot live without you. It would probably be the safest course of keeping his affections tied to you. Now if you will forgive me, I must leave now. My own business presses hard on me, but I am glad we have had time to discuss this." He rose and bowed over her hand, kissing her fingers.

Faine listened to his words, very carefully yet closely. She had to be careful with what she did. Invaluable--how could she make herself so invaluable to her husband so that he could not stray from her? She had no idea--but she knew she had to do it so that she may keep her husband and hopefully he would eventually love her(although she had her doubts). But as Phoebus announced that he had to depart, she nodded her head as to curtisy. As he kissed her finger, she replied to him,"Of course. I understand, sir Danton. I am glad you had time to discuss this with me. My husband and I will always welcome you in our home next time you choose to visit us."Being the good, kind hostess, she smiled.
